A Team of members of our church help out at the Soup Kitchen on the fourth Tuesday of each month (look for dates, times and info in the News Section). We leave the church at 9:30 a.m. and return around 1:30 p.m. Activities include food preparation and serving from behind a cafeteria-style counter. There is a sign-up sheet in the Hallway on the wall opposite the Church Library (it includes space to sign up for the current month) or you can contact us by sending an e-mail to office(at)princetonumc.org. (1) The Crisis Ministry is seeking weekday morning volunteers in their Trenton location to do intake in their food store. Volunteers will work one-on-one with clients, welcoming them to Crisis Ministry and updating their files, one morning a week from 8:50 AM to noon , with the first week of each month off. (2) The Crisis Ministry is also seeking volunteer tax preparers for its Free Tax Prep/Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) program. Volunteers work one-to-one with clients to fill out and electronically file tax returns on Thursday and Friday afternoons or Saturdays starting in February 2010. Princeton United Methodist Church has launched a partnership with ISLES, a Trenton-based not-for-profit to help refurbish affordable housing in the Old Trenton neighborhood and is looking for volunteers. The team spends one Saturday each month working on one of seven historic units being rehabilitated by Isles, an organization with more than 15 years of experience in developing affordable housing. Isles Youth Build Teen Mentors Needed
Isles Youth Build Institute (IYI) is looking for adults who can be mentors to students aged 16 to 18 years. Mentors must be 21 or over and a background check is required. Isles will provide mentoring training and support. Both male and female mentors are needed. Womanspace
Womanspace is a leading not-for-profit agency providing a comprehensive array of services to individuals impacted by domestic and sexual violence and dedicated to improving the quality of life for women and their families. Become a volunteer helping with their programs. They need donations of used cell phones, personal care items and clothing for the residents of their emergency shelters. You can find a list of specific items they need on this page.
The Growth Committee is looking for PUMC families to “Host a Princeton University Student” for the 2010-11 school year. PUMC families will be paired up with students who participate in the Christian fellowship at Princeton University through the Wesley Foundation, the United Methodist Church’s on-campus ministry. PUMC families would be asked, at a minimum, to invite their “adopted” student over for a home-cooked meal in the fall and again in the spring.
