United Methodist Women (UMW)

To introduce ourselves or expand your knowledge of who we are and what we do, the United Methodist Women raise funds to provide a hot meal and computer lessons, warm clothes for an orphanage in Romania, tools, building supplies, and support for repairing houses in Appalachia, and the opportunity for young girls to be involved in Girl Scouting with their incarcerated mothers.   They further provide books for children in Ghana, educational supplies in India, and support the Riverblindness project (more about this on the Ministries We Support page).

By holding both Spring and Fall Flea Markets, these are just some of the many ways the sale funds have been put to use in far reaching and heart touching ways. Working side by side on the Flea Markets, by sharing cups of tea and meeting new friends, painting and laughing through kitchen repair projects, these are just a few of the ways we gather in friendship with one another.

The circle meetings, devotions, guest speakers, picnics, and other social events allow us time to bond by sharing our goals, our joys or sorrows in ways in which we renew ourselves, share our strengths and support one another.  Our endeavor is to continue to serve God, our church and our community.

New! A Prayer Shawl Ministry

A new Woman's Ministry started in January 2012!
A Prayer Shawl is a soft, warm shawl, that is either knitted or crocheted, which is given to persons who are ill, have suffered a loss, or who are in crisis. The shawls are blessed in worship and then delivered to those in need. The ministry team will meet once a month to discuss the ministry, work on the shawls, and pray for those who will receive them. Are you interested?

Do you knit or do you crochet, or are you interested in learning; the pattern is very simple. This is a quiet but powerful ministry.

The newly formed Prayer Shawl Ministry Team will meet once a month for fellowship and to discuss the ministry, work on the shawls, and pray for those who will receive them. Are you interested? There are several ways to be involved in this ministry.

  • you can knit or crochet a shawl
  • you can share the name of a friend or loved one who is need of God's blessing through this ministry
  • you can support the ministry financially

If you are interested, please contact the Ministry Leader (Cheryl M) at [email protected] Look for dates of upcoming meetings on the Upcoming Events page and/or in the News Listings.
