Lenten and Easter Worship Services

  • Sunday Worship Sermon Series “The Final Words from the Cross”
  • Mid-Week Lenten Services at Noon in the chapel. This year our focus for these worship experiences is “Psalms for the Rhythms of Life.” We invite you to join us as we explore themes such as Doubt and Assurance, Confession and Pardon, Sorrow and Comfort, Anger and Lament, Praise and Thanksgiving, and Reflection and Anticipation -- just some of the topics that the Psalms address!  We will enjoy lunch and fellowship following worship.
  • Palm/Passion Sunday Worship at 9:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m.
  • Holy Thursday Upper Room Communion Service on April 5 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Good Friday Service on April 6 at Noon.
  • Good Friday Concert April 6 at 7:30 p.m. Information below.
  • Easter Sunday Sunrise Communion Service on the front lawn at 6:30 a.m.
    followed by a Continental Breakfast in the Sanford Davis Room.
  • Easter Egg Hunt, 9:30 a.m.
  • Easter Festival Worship at 9:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary.

Thursday, April 5, 7:30 p.m. "The Living Last Supper" Oratorio

The High School and Middle School choirs and instruments will present “The Living Last Supper,” a dramatic oratorio by Ruth Ellen Schram and directed by Yvonne Macdonald. This musical service incorporates the Leonardo DaVinci painting as a model for the set. It aims to portray a true picture of the Passover feast that Jesus celebrated with his disciples and it will be followed by Communion served in groups of 12, as it was in the Upper Room.

Good Friday, April 6th, 7:30 p.m. Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir with soloists and a chamber orchestra will perform "The Seven Last Words of Christ" by Theodore Dubois. This is one of the most powerful and inspirational choral works of the 19th century. Come an encounter Jesus Christ's last moments at the cross.

Holy Saturday Vespers, Saturday, April 7th, 5 p.m.

As part of our regular Saturday Evening Worship Gatherings, we will observe Holy Saturday with a solemn vesper service in the Chapel. Refreshments will follow.

EASTER EGG HUNT.  On Easter Sunday, there is a SPECIAL EASTER EGG HUNT during the 9:30 service for the Sunday School children, ages 3 through 5th grade.  Following the children’s sermon, the children will go to the Youth Room.  The group will be split into older and younger children.  One group will go out to the side lawn to hunt for eggs while the other group has an activity time.  Then the groups will switch.  At the end of the hour they will come together for a snack. Don't miss this fun event.

Easter Sunday Sunrise Service, April 8th, 6:30 a.m.

Usher in Easter Sunday with this meaningful service which will be held on the front lawn of the church and followed by a continental breakfast.

Easter Sunday Traditional Worship Services, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m.

Rev. Jana Purkis-Brash, our Senior Pastor will preach "On The Road to Emmaus" based on Luke 24:13-48. Come and celebrate with us the joy of Easter and the Resurrection!

Easter Flowers for the Altar

This year we invite you to help decorate the altar on Easter Sunday. Lilies are $15 each, Tulips are $8 each, Hydrangeas are $25 each and Azaleas are $14 each. As an alternative, you may donate to the Easter Flower Alternative/Memorial Garden Fund for the continued development/maintenance of the memorial garden and to keep the landscaping in good condition. You will find order forms in upcoming church bulletins and also in Connection Point. You may drop your order forms in the offering plate on Sunday’s, or mail them to the church office (PUMC, 7 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton, NJ 08542). Please make checks payable to "Princeton United Methodist Church." Orders must be received by March 25th. Orders for Lilies will only be taken through April 1st.
